Mural at Wright College

This past May, Somos Arte partnered with City Colleges of Chicago and Mario Mena to create a mural at Wright College! The school wanted a piece that represented the beauty and diversity of its students by highlighting a wide array of flowers and elements from some of the Latin American countries its students come from. Below is the description of what Mario wrote in his proposal.

“For this mural, I incorporated the national flowers of Ecuador, El Salvador, Puerto Rico, Nicaragua, and Paraguay to represent the diversity of our Latinx community.

Along with the flowers, the monarch butterflies represent metamorphosis as many of our parents and prior generations come to the United States for a better future for their families. We are all constantly learning and changing into a better version of ourselves and as a generation as well. The colors of the mural are intentionally vibrant and vivid because we come from culturally rich and vibrant backgrounds”

We’re so thankful to Mario for always sharing his talents and passions with the community 🙏🏽 If you’re at the Wright College campus, check it out!
